SBIRT Advisory Council
The SBIRT Advisory Council is a subcommittee for the Colorado Substance Abuse Trend and Response Task Force. As a committee, the Council provides updates on the prevention and early intervention of substance use statewide.
What is SBIRT?
Screening, Brief, Intervention, and Referral to Treatment, or SBIRT, is an evidence-based early intervention approach to identify, reduce, and prevent the use of alcohol and other substances. Screening and Brief Intervention is recommended by the CDC, U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, American Academy of Pediatrics, SAMHSA, and the Veterans Administration. When combined with community level prevention strategies, SBIRT contributes to the prevention of disease, injury, and other negative outcomes of alcohol and other substance use in individuals, families, and communities.
